        In the beginning Helen packed a bag and slammed the door and never came back. In the middle Mack says, "I'm not going to hurt Ruby." In the end, Ivan says, "She had a friend. A friend who made a promise." I picked this because Mack only has Ivan now and he could have hurt Ruby but Ivan told about how he made a promise to Stella. His promise was to take care of Ruby and take her to a safe place.

We just read some pages out of the book The One And Only Ivan. 

One quote that I found was when Ruby asked, "Do you think, that I'll die in this domain someday like Aunt Stella?" It was on page 165, paragraph 2. I picked it because Ruby misses her Aunt Stella.

The next quote that I found was on page 152, paragraph 3. It was when Mack said, "I'm not gonna hurt her." When Julia said, "No!" I picked that one because it surprised me, because I really thought Mack was going to hurt Ruby.

1. How would you feel if you were treated like Ruby was at practice?
My answer: I would feel very angry and exhausted.
2. If you were in a domain for 9,876 days, what would you feel like?
My answer: I would feel lazy and lonely because a domain would usually be completely empty.
3: If you were an animal that was exhausted and being judged, what would you do?
My answer: I would not listen to my owner and try to get some rest until I'm okay.

The elephant is about to get hit

We are reading the book called The One And Only Ivan. I decided to research more about claw-sticks.

Claw-sticks are mostly used to train circus animals. The claw-stick is a symbol of torture. Claw sticks are more like weapons than tools. People use claw sticks to train different kind animals.

This week I read more of the book called The One And Only Ivan.  When Ruby does what Mack says she gets a sugar cube.  My Text-To-World connection is... when I do something right I get a reward.

When Mack, the keeper of the Big Top Mall, makes Ruby do something and she does it.  My Text-To-World connections is... when Edward Brodas would tell the Slaves to do something they would get it done right away.

This is what slavery looked like. It is when you obey someone and do what they say. We do not have slavery today, slavery is something that we do not want!

We just got done reading a little bit more about The One And Only Ivan and I learned more about the Ivan characters in this book.

In the book it said: "Helen was quick to laugh, but quick to anger, too, especially when I broke something, which was often." The text-to-world connection I made was when I watch a movie at home and the baby gorilla broke things in the house.

The book later said: "One day Helen came home with something large and flat,wrapped in brown paper." The text-to-self connection I made was when my mom came home with something flat wrapped in brown paper.

I just got done reading pages 111-140 from the book The One And Only Ivan. These are some facts about the author, Katherine Applegate. She has written a lot of books like: The Buffalo Storm and Ivan: The Remarkable True Story of the Shopping Mall Gorilla. She wrote about 39 books! She was born on October 9, 1956. She is a fiction writer. Katherine Applegate's most famous book is The One And Only Ivan, it won a medal!

I just read more from our book, The One And Only Ivan. Here are some pictures that remind me of the book. In the first picture there are gorilla's.They are playing tag, These are baby.The other picture is gorilla carrying a baby. The baby will not fall because the gorilla is holding it tightly.

Good Friends

We are reading the book The One and Only Ivan.

One quote I found was on page 112 on paragraph four.
Ivan says,"I promise anyway". I picked this quote because I thought Ivan was being nice to Ruby by promising her anything.


The next quote I fond was on page 128 and on paragraph four.
Ivan says, "One day the humans came." I picked this because it was the humans who took Ivan's family away.

Ivan  tried to make Ruby feel better by promising her anything.

I thought Ivan was being lovable to Ruby.                                                                            

Ivan said that one day the humans came and took Ivan and his sister away.

Important Things

This week I read more of the One And Only Ivan.  First, Stella's foot started to hurt because before she came to the Big Top Mall she was a circus animal and did a stunt on a little bike and fell of of it.  Next , everyone said that Stella was not doing the best.  After that, the owner said that he should have called the vet.  Finally, Stella was super cold.  She did not get any better. I can't wait to read what happens next!

Stella has a sprained foot.

I just read some pages out of The One And Only Ivan  and here are some of my connections. 

My text to self  connection is when Ruby said, "Ivan, tell me another joke, please!" That reminded me of when my sister said to tell her another funny joke. 

My next connection is a text to world connection. This was when Julia said, "Look at the way she is breathing." It reminded me of when I saw that an animal was not breathing well on a T.V show my sister was watching.

We just finished reading pages 85-110 in The One and Only Ivan. Stella said to Ivan that he would make a great dad because he was the most responsible out of the other animals. I researched how do silver backs treat their babies? What I learned was that when the babies want to sleep they crawl onto their dad's back and fall asleep.
    
I wanted to know what elephants do in the circus so I searched it up. It said that elephants do stretches and stand on their back legs in a circus. In the One and Only Ivan Ruby goes to a circus and has no idea what to do!

There is so much to read about in "The One and Only Ivan". I have included pictures down below to show you what animals are in this book. These two elephants names are Stella and Ruby. Stella is the big elephant, she has an injured foot. The gorilla is Ivan, he like's to draw because it reminds him of his sister. The dog's name is Bob. Bob is a friend of Ivan's and he does not let humans touch him because he thinks their scent upsets his digestion.

In the beginning, Ivan does not know any tricks. He draws, so people buy his drawings even though they do not know what the drawings are. Then, it had been two days since anyone had come to visit, but a new animal came. Her name is Ruby. Ruby is an elephant. Next, Julia comes to Stella and Ruby's domain and draws Ruby. At the end, Ivan and Ruby start talking about how they got separated from their families.

I read part of a book called The One and Only Ivan. These were interesting pictures that you can look at all.
I chose two elephants because Ruby and Stella live in the same domain. A domain is their home. I also chose 5 gorilla's because in all of Ivan's brothers and sisters, there were 5. I chose a picture of an animal domain because all of the animals live in a domain. One reason I chose a chihuahua was because it said Bob had big ears, so this made me think of a chihuahua.
